Network & Information Systems

Description

Network and Information Systems provides information technology support and services for the agency and all TTI employees. NIS brings innovative uses of information technology to TTI, to improve the agency’s productivity and communication. This includes network, software, and hardware support; information systems development and support; and web administration and development services.

NIS is divided into three functional areas:

  • Management and Information Systems (MIS)
The MIS team maintains TTI’s information system (TTI-IS), which currently consists of the Human Resources, Resume, Sponsored Research Project Administration (SRPA), Library, Division and Service Tracking modules. In designing each module of this system, subject matter experts from throughout the agency collaborated with the MIS team to clearly define the requirements for their respective modules. The result is a system that supports the agency in research mission. In addition to maintaining TTI-IS, members of the MIS team work closely with research on projects that require database and systems development expertise.
  • Microcomputer & Network Support Services
The Microcomputer & Network Support Services team plans, sets up, and maintains the local- and wide-area networks that serve researchers and the agency as a whole. This includes maintaining the servers and associated hardware and software that support the agency’s intranet, Internet, file and print, backup, and database servers.
  • Web Administration and Development Services
The Web Administration and Development Services team provides technical support services related to various aspects of website development, hosting, and maintenance. This includes customized technical support, FTP/shared access, 24-hour monitoring, domain name registration, search engine registration, and Windows SharePoint services. Members of this team partner with researchers on projects that involve web deployment.
