Generations on the Land: Working for Land Stewardship

Generations on the Land: Working for Land Stewardship

October 24, 2008

Texas A&M University
Rudder Tower Room 601
College Station, TX 77843

Sand County Foundation (SCF) and Texas A&M University's Department of Ecosystem Science and Management propose to bring outstanding landowners from seven different states together with Texas A&M University students in the first of a series of landowner symposia. The theme for this first event is "sustainability". Sustainability is often considered in the context of ecological resilience, but according to David Pratt (Ranching for Profit, California), any definition of sustainability must also include economic, aesthetic, social, and cultural considerations. On October 24, 2008, the two institutions will partner to host a campus-based symposium with pairs of landowners invited as featured presenters and panelists. Each invited landowner pair will represent two generations of the same family working on the land and will be chosen from among SCF's Leopold Conservation Award winners.
