Workshop

Workshop: Introduction To Land - Use Modeling
(9:00a.m. - 12:00 noon; Tuesday, May 27, 2008)
Land use modeling overview, describing suitability analysis (for targeted change) and multiple modeling paradigms (for anticipating actual land use changes), with a focus on gravity models. Demonstrations using ArcGIS and TransCAD platforms will be provided, along with results for the Waco and Austin regions. RSVP to amp1@mail.utexas.edu - limited seating - will end by noon to allow time for lunch.

Registration Fees

Online registration is now closed. You may register on-site at the Westin Galleria Hotel starting at 12:00 noon, on Tuesday, May 27.

Pre-registration is recommended and will help us in planning and preparing a better conference. If you pre-register, your name tag and program packet will be ready when you arrive at the hotel.

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) employees are not required to pay a registration fee for this conference. However, please register so that a nametag will be available for you upon check-in at the conference.

For non-TxDOT, non-FHWA, and non-FTA employees, the registration fee will be $275 until Friday, May 2, 2008. After May 2, the registration fee will be assessed a $50 late fee. Onsite registration will be available for $375. You may pay your registration fee by check, money order, or credit card.

Payment must be postmarked by Friday, May 2, 2008 in order to avoid the late fee. EM&P cannot invoice; therefore, payment of the conference registration fee must be received prior to admission to the conference.

For payment processing purposes, the vendor identification number for TTI EM&P is 37277277275000. The federal identification number is 74-2270624.

Please make checks or money orders payable to TTI-TPP. EM&P also accepts Visa, MasterCard, and Discover credit cards.

Cancellations

Only cancellations received in writing by EM&P by 5:00 pm (CST) Friday, May 2, 2008 will be refunded, less a $50 handling fee. No refunds will be made after May 2.

Speaker Information

We extend our appreciation for your acceptance to speak at the 2008 Transportation Planning Conference. If for some reason you cannot attend we would hope that you could send another person in your place. The moderator assigned to your session will mail you a letter in the next few weeks detailing the specific date and time of your presentation. Also included in the letter will be a request for your biographical information, which will assist the moderator in introducing you at the beginning of the session.

Speakers will be responsible for producing their own PowerPoint presentations. The moderator for your session will be contacting you regarding your presentations prior to the beginning of the conference and will be responsible for loading them onto a laptop. A laptop computer and LCD projector will be provided for presentations. If you have other needs, please let us know in advance.

Speakers are required to register according to the registration rate guidelines.

Hotel Reservations

The Westin Galleria is holding a block of rooms for our use at the prevailing state rate. We encourage everyone needing a room to call immediately since we anticipate the rooms will be booked quickly. Reservations should be made by Monday, May 5, 2008. After this date, rooms are subject to availability and may be at a higher rate. To receive this conference rate, please call the Westin Galleria Hotel at 713-960-8100. Remember to ask for reservations for the "TxDOT 2008 Transportation Planning Conference" to receive special rates on rooms.

Please note: The number of sleeping rooms is limited. When reserving sleeping rooms, please reserve each room under the participant's name whenever possible. No more than 2 rooms will be allowed under any one name.

The sleeping room block deadline has been extended to Wednesday, May 14, 2008.

Please note: Any attendee not identifying his/her affiliation with the group and not requesting the conference rate prior to check-in cannot be extended the conference rate at a later date or during or after the meeting.

Directions to the Hotel

From William P. Hobby Airport

Take I-45 North to Loop 610 West. Exit at Westheimer and turn left. Proceed 2 blocks and turn left onto Sage. Turn left onto West Alabama, and the hotel is on the left.

From West

Take Interstate 10 East to Loop 610 South and exit at San Felipe/Westheimer. Turn right onto Westheimer, then turn left onto Sage. From Sage, turn left onto West Alabama. The hotel is on the left.

From George Bush Intercontinental Airport

Take Interstate 45 South to Loop 610 West, which will become Loop 610 South. From Loop 610 South, exit right at Westheimer, proceed 2 blocks, and turn left onto Sage. continue 1 block and turn left onto West Alabama.

From South

Take Highway 59 North to Loop 610 North and exit at Westheimer. Turn left onto Westheimer, then turn left onto Sage. Turn left onto West Alabama, and the hotel is on the left.
