Presentation Title: Repair of Scour & Erosion Damage at Bridges
Presentation Summary: Bridge scour repair and design of flexible revetment systems are discussed, several examples projects are provided.
Bio/Expertise Highlights: Since 1998 the presenter has been the district bridge engineer in San Antonio where we have several regions that are susceptible to scour. Under his direction, the San Antonio District Bridge Section has designed scour repairs for multiple sites and developed tools and resources to provide guidance to district design offices. He has over 22 years with the TxDOT, most of which has been bridge related. He received a bachelor's science degree in civil engineering in 1985 from Texas A&M University and completed a master's of science degree, specializing in structural/geotechnical engineering, in 1997 at the University of Texas in Austin.

Bio/Expertise Highlights: I am the Manager of the Geotechnical Branch of TxDOT's Bridge Division. I have 27+ years of experience with the design and installation of driven piling. I authored the TxDOT Standard Specification for Driving Piling.

Presentation Summary: Provide an understanding of rigid and flexible bank protection, discussing the differences between them and why TxDOT recommends flexible bank protection.
Bio/Expertise Highlights: As a member of the TxDOT Geotechnical Branch I am responsible for and have worked on projects in the following areas, which pertain to the topic that I am presenting: 1) the design, installation, and inspection of stone protection; 2) the design, installation, and inspection of various flexible erosion protection systems including gabions, gabion mattresses, A-Jacks, etc.; and 3) bridge hydraulics and bridge scour analyses.
