State Headquarters Building

TTI's State Headquarters and Research Building (SHRB) not only provides the first official state headquarters in the agency's 60-year history, but also houses a state-of-the-art Visibility Research Laboratory and offices for other agency research programs.

SHRB has been gold certified by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The award surpasses the silver certification that was required at the time by Texas A&M University for buildings located on its campus.

Building project stats

  • The building is approximately 66,700 gross square feet
  • The three floors feature:
    • Research and support space
    • Traffic Control Materials Research Facility
    • Headquarters and Administrative offices
    • Agency support offices
    • Conference and meeting facilities
    • Employee shower and locker facilities to encourage alternate modes of transportation and related health benefits

Community and growth

Our desire from the beginning was to create a community or campus atmosphere between the Gibb Gilchrist Building and the new building. We have been successful at including many features that we desired either through experience in existing buildings or from staff ideas. Some of those features include a business center for visiting employees or agency guests, ample meeting rooms, wireless services in the building, gathering areas for impromptu meetings, space for conference registration, showers with changing areas, larger kitchens, ease of intuitive directionality (where am I and where is the exit?).
