Testing Capabilities

The Air Quality Program performs emissions and fuel consumption testing of a broad range of on-road and off-road vehicles using state-of-the-art testing equipment and facilities.

TTI does a range of real-world emissions and fuel consumption testing, both in the field and in a laboratory setting. The new, state of the art Environmental and Emissions Research Facility is the flagship facility that houses our testing equipment. This includes portable emissions measurement systems and other test equipment, which can also be used for field testing. Other test capabilities include testing for fuel consumption (using SAE and other protocols), and testing on various test tracks available to TTI.

Pecos Research and Testing Center

The Pecos Research & Testing Center is the ideal location for a broad range of academic and applied research testing for both standard sized vehicles and heavy duty trucks. An academic-industry collaboration among the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, Applied Research Associates, and the Pecos Economic Development Corporation, the Center is a 5,800-acre complex near Pecos, Texas, in the western part of the state. The SAE J1321 testing protocol, which requires a circular track, is performed at this facility. The Pecos Research and Testing Center also meets the EPA smartway test protocol.

Riverside Campus

Located 10 miles from the main campus of Texas A&M University, The Riverside Campus is home to many testing facilities that accommodate a wide variety of multidisciplinary transportation research and implementation projects. Riverside provides the realistic conditions needed for crash testing, pavement friction and smoothness testing, erosion control product testing, and traffic engineering studies.
