The Center for Alcohol and Drug Education Studies (CADES) focuses on solving problems caused by the irresponsible use of alcohol and other drugs. Shared with the Texas A&M College of Education and Human Development and housed with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, CADES provides education and research related to alcohol and other drugs specifically as they relate to traffic safety.
The Center coordinates efforts with state agencies such as the Texas Department of Transportation, Texas Department of State Health Services, Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Texas Education Agency to provide a comprehensive and uniform approach to alcohol and drug education. The Center also provides teaching, research, and service opportunities for faculty and students both within and outside the Department of Health and Kinesiology.

CADES is a central resource for the collection and distribution of a wide range of literature related to alcohol and drug education. The Center engages in research that seeks to identify and evaluate approaches aimed at preventing the use and misuse of alcohol and other drugs by society.
CADES offers a state-approved alcohol awareness program for minors who have received citations such as “Minor in Possession” (MIP), “Attempt to Purchase,” “Purchase,” “Consumption,” “Driving Under the Influence,” “Misrepresentation of Age,” and “Public Intoxication.”
