This project set out to determine whether agencies were reporting DWI arrest and conviction information to the State of Texas as required by Chapter 60 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. More than 200 records were gathered from various law enforcement agencies and were verified through the criminal history system on the Texas Department of Public Safety’s website to determine compliance by each agency. When a record was found that was not entered, the cause for the non-entry was investigated. In addition, each of the agencies that had records collected as part of this project were solicited for pros and cons of the criminal history system. The end result of this project was a report detailing the process of reporting, the findings from record collection and verification, and strategies for improvement.
