Assessing the Texas impaired driving program

CTS researchers have worked with TxDOT’s Traffic Safety Section Alcohol and Other Drug Countermeasures Program to facilitate an internal statewide assessment to identity the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats related to the program. This assessment is a “living document” that is maintained through an on-going process that is fully integrated into the planning and evaluation associated with the Traffic Safety Section’s Alcohol and Other Drug Countermeasures Program. TTI is responsible for gathering information from program partners and other sources to revise this document on an annual basis. TTI revised the format in 2010 to reflect the 2005 version of the NHTSA Assessment Guidelines, but also to better communicate the information with the alcohol program partners across the state. This report documents the current status of the items contained in the impaired driving program assessment. The updated format allows better communication of the state’s progress towards meeting the guidelines as suggested by NHTSA for a well-structured, effective state-level impaired driving program.
