CTS researchers are currently working on a multi-year project on behalf of TxDOT’s Traffic Safety Section which involves in-depth work with a local coalition to address the issues related to underage drinking as well as drinking and driving/riding, with the primary focus on youth in secondary schools. The project utilized a modified community assessment team
approach to identify community issues. The team conducted a series of meetings with key individuals in the community to further discuss areas of concern related to underage drinking and driving. The team met with community members in the following areas: Enforcement, Education, Public Policy, Prevention, and Student/Parents. Researchers and the coalition members consider the team’s recommendations and work with the experts on the development of a strategic plan to reduce underage drinking in the Brazos Valley.
