The BAC results reported to TxDOT Crash Records Information System (CRIS) provide the only objective evidence of a driver’s impairment at the time of a crash. State agencies, legislators and other policy-makers need this information in order to set policies, establish priorities for highway safety funding and law enforcement activities, and determine the need for policy changes. This project examined the rate of reporting of BACs by medical examiner’s officers and justices of the peace as well as identified ways to improve the overall reporting of BACs.
