Evaluating the Teen Click it or Ticket campaign

Well publicized, highly visible enforcement during a specific time frame has been shown to be effective in increasing safety belt use. In particular, the Click It Or Ticket campaign has been successfully implemented in many states throughout the nation. Texas has participated in Click It Or Ticket each year since 2002, and CTS researchers each year measure the effectiveness of the mobilization through observational surveys of safety belt use before, during, and after the increased enforcement period in 10 of Texas’ largest cities. The CIOT model has recently been used to target young drivers and passengers as part of a demonstration project in six states. Research staff measured belt use by teens, offering evidence that Texas was one of the states in which the demonstration project was a success.
