Research Areas

Implementation

Much of the research conducted by the Texas A&M Transportation Institute’s Signs and Markings Program is implemented through changes or additions to state, national, and international documents such as the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and ASTM standards and specifications.

Lighting

TTI researchers are investigating many aspects of visibility and lighting as new technologies are developed and innovative applications are designed.

Pavement Markings

Pavement markings provide one of the primary means of communicating information to drivers. Unlike traffic signs and signals, pavement markings are continuous and provide motorists with the vital guidance they need to properly position their vehicle on the road.

Signs

Traffic signs serve vital functions, providing road users with regulatory, warning and guidance information about the roadway and surrounding environment. There are a large number of signs and even more guidelines on how these signs should be designed, installed and maintained.
