The Air Quality Studies Program performs research primarily on mobile source transportation air quality issues related to sources and impacts of pollutant emissions and polices and actions that can be taken to improve air quality. The program's work assists sponsors with technical research to provide information to more effectively evaluate potential air quality policies, emission reduction measures, and new technologies or applications that may aid in the improvement of air quality. The program also conducts research to expand analytical tools used in transportation air quality analysis.
Examples of the program's work include evaluating potential effectiveness of new technologies to reduce mobile source emissions, effects of regulatory changes on emissions, innovative actions to reduce motor vehicle emissions, public agency programs that reduce emissions associated with ongoing operations, effectiveness of pollution action day programs, guidelines for optimizing use of transportation funds to improve air quality, optimization of location of electrified truck stops, quantification of emissions of heavy duty diesel trucks at border crossings, support to conformity determinations and state implementation plans, data collection programming, and assessment of transportation air public education and outreach programs. The program also leads a Texas statewide transportation air quality public education program.
The Air Quality Studies Program staff brings over 60 years of experience in the following areas:
Program staff provide sponsors technical and strategic assistance. The program can assist sponsors with design of data collection programs; development and analysis of candidate emissions reduction measures; analysis of proposed policies, technologies, programs or legislation; support for emission reduction program implementation; and support for air quality conformity and state implementation programs.
The program works closely with TTI's Transportation Modeling Program as well as other programs within TTI. Current sponsors include
