System Planning
Description
The System Planning Program performs research in the areas of intelligent transportation systems (ITS), transportation planning, transit planning, travel demand management (TDM), transportation financing, smart growth, growth management, land use and transit connectivity issues, sustainable transportation, airport system planning and research, aviation education, and general aviation safety, and performance measurement. Three examples of current projects include the following:
- Examining relationships between interacting land uses within mixed use developments and their impacts on vehicle trip generation;
- Developing strategies for partnering between the state DOT and local public and private organizations to fund and implement transportation improvements; and
- Updating the state airport system handbook.
