Crash Analysis Group

Description

The focus of the crash analysis and modeling group is to assimilate, synthesize, and analyze roadway crash data to predict and/or establish causal relationships, potential countermeasures, and/or safety improvements to minimize the frequency and/or severity of roadway crashes. This will include the development of effective methodologies for roadway crash data research, the conduct of engineering safety studies, the utilization and enhancement of crash prediction models, the development and refinement of computer visualization of roadway crash data, statistical analysis of roadway crash data, and the evaluation of roadway safety improvement programs.

Expertise

Researchers in the Crash Analysis and Modeling Group have expertise in the following areas:

  • transportation safety,
  • system design,
  • urban transportation,
  • safety performance functions,
  • pedestrian safety,
  • application of traffic conflicts at signalized intersections,
  • investigation of safety issues for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technology, and
  • analysis of geometric and mass transit freeway improvements.
