Southwest Region University Transportation Center (SWUTC)

TTI serves as the lead agency for the Southwest Region University Transportation Center (serves Federal Region 6), funded jointly by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA) and the State of Texas. SWUTC is one of the 10 regional and several other designated centers of the University Transportation Centers (UTC) Program.

SWUTC was established at The Texas A&M University System in October 1988 as a center for transportation research and education. The center is comprised of a consortium of three universities within Region 6:

University Transportation Center for Mobility (UTCM)

The University Transportation Center for Mobility (UTCM) facilitates mobility enhancement through competitive funding of programs in Research, Education and Technology Transfer.

The four research focus areas of the UTCM are:

  • Coast-to-coast, border-to-border mobility,
  • Rural public transportation,
  • Congestion management and mitigation, and
  • Innovative financing.

We encourage innovative proposals for new education programs including new courses, certifications and degree programs. Technology transfer projects may include local, state, regional or national conferences, as well as other innovative methods to disseminate research results to the transportation community. Outreach programs or other workforce development projects are also encouraged.

UTCM was designated as one of approximately 60 University Transportation Centers (UTCs) in the nation. The University Transportation Centers (UTC) Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) and administered by the U.S. DOT's Research and Innovative Technology Administration. UTCM is located in College Station, Texas, within the Texas Transportation Institute, a member of The Texas A&M University System.
