Free Post-Conference Workshop @ Gilchrist Building
8:30 - 9:00 AM Workshop Registration and Coffee
9:00 - 11:30 AM Post-Conference Special Topic Workshop:

The Future of Communicating with the Driver

The way information is communicated to the driver on the road is changing—fast. With the advances in display technology we will have the ability to present the driver significantly more information than ever before. While more information can be good, it may also overload the driver. The purpose of this workshop is to engage the participants from the Visibility Symposium in a discussion on the impact of new information display technologies on the driver and road safety. As part of the Workshop we will identify inter-disciplinary visibility research needs relative to the sponsoring committees.

Topics to be discussed:
  • Inside and Outside the vehicle considerations
  • Heads-up displays
  • Active warning devices
  • Variable information signs/displays
  • Bigger & brighter signs and markings
  • Impact of advance vehicle lighting technology
  • Impact of Vehicle-Infrastructure communication
