Roadside Safety

When the highway system was being developed, little thought was given to the dangers along the roadside. Serious injuries and deaths became common when vehicles left the road, striking embankments, bridge supports, culverts and signs. Now, safety is one of the key factors in the development of any road.

Crash testing performed at TTI has helped researchers like Roger Bligh make vast improvements to guardrails, crash cushions and signs that were often responsible for roadside deaths and injuries.
