Jeff Miles has worked in the transportation field since 2001, and is currently an Associate Transportation Researcher with the Operations and Design Division of the Texas Transportation Institute. Mr. Miles received his Bachelors and Masters of Science in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University. He is registered Engineer-in-Training in the State of Texas.
Mr. Miles started in the transportation field in research while at TTI under the direct guidance of Dr. Gene Hawkins and Dr. Paul Carlson. He has gained practical field experience regarding transportation safety and operational performance issues by participating on several research studies for the Texas Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration. His research experience includes traffic control devices (TCDs) and access management, and he has experience with retrospective, observational and experimental research studies.
With respect to TCDs, Mr. Miles also has experience in testing materials both in the field and the lab for durability and retroreflectivity performance. He is knowledgeable on various types of data collection equipment and techniques, and in particular, he has experience with devices that measure:
retroreflectivity (i.e., MX-30, LTL-X, Laserlux, RetroSign, 930B);
luminance/illuminance (i.e., CS-100, T-10, PM-1600);
color (i.e., color-guide, LTL-Y, PR-650);
traffic volumes/vehicle classifier (ADR2000, TRAX III Plus); and
lateral vehicle position (TRAX III Plus).
Currently, Mr. Miles is an active member of the Brazos Valley Chapter of the Texas Section of Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE). He is also an active member in the Texas Section of ITE, and the Transportation Research Board (TRB). He has presented and published several papers through TRB and is an active friend of the Traffic Control Devices, Signs and Markings, Visibility, and Low Volume Roads Committees.
