Short Biography

Mr. Venglar has been involved with research activities at the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) since 1992. His primary responsibilities have been focused in the areas of transportation operations modeling, analysis and evaluation. In recent years, he has served as a project leader on research in the areas of managed lanes traffic operations, railroad preemption of traffic signals, freeway ITS evaluation, GPS/GIS transportation network monitoring, and real-time arterial signal optimization. These projects have been funded by a variety of sponsors, including the Transportation Research Board (IDEA Program), the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), and local (Austin, Texas) area sponsors. In perfomance of myriad traffic engineering research and transportation modeling studies, Mr. Venglar has developed a broad experience base using traffic analysis (PASSER II, PASSER III, Synchro, Transyt-7F, HCS) and transportation modeling (CORSIM, VISSIM, Integration) tools.

Mr. Venglar's career experience also includes leadership roles in efforts to develop a real-time control and optimization algorithm for signalized diamond interchanges, in an investigation of freeway incident management in Austin, Texas, and in a study to determine the impacts of light-rail transit in at-grade signalized environments. He also participated in TTI's effort to develop an Intelligent Transportation Systems Strategic Plan for TxDOT. His professional development activities include developing and teaching courses for TxDOT in the areas of traffic signal preemption, signal optimization and transportation simulation modeling, and he taught a National Highway Institute course in computerized traffic signal systems. Mr. Venglar is an active local and national member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), including service in local leadership positions and membership in ITE committees in several traffic engineering areas.
