Short Biography
Edward Brackin is an Assistant Research Specialist with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute. With extensive experience, in the communications, construction, installations, military and computer technology fields, Mr. Brackin brings an extensive technical skill set to the research program.While at TTI, Mr. Brackin has been involved in numerous research projects, focusing on field data collection, data manipulation, hardware and system assembly and deployments, as well as technical expertise in computers and communications.
Recent project involvement includes:
* The development of a wireline communications guidebook,
* Use of Ethernet technologies for ITS field data transmission,
* Low cost alternatives for advanced detection,
* Bryan/College Station ATMS Architecture,
* Mexican commercial motor vehicle compliance with FMVSS, and
* A field-hardened Gigabit Ethernet network for data and video transmission
Prior to joining TTI, Mr. Brackin held numerous positions with the United States Air Force and Texas Air National Guard. He is a retired Master Sergeant with over twenty one years experience in all aspects of telecommunications including radio, telephone, microwave, fiber, and satellite. In addition he has over twelve years experience as a field engineer installing, removing, and fabricating all the afore mentioned systems including towers, buildings, and cabling systems. In addition to performing these task in peace time Mr. Brackin has performed these duties during war.
Mr. Brackin has worked at TTI over ten years. In addition to project work he has day the day responsibility for the administration of the TransLink® Research Center Laboratory. Mr. Brackin has multiple field work experience operating both alone and part of a group. He has performed data collection on freeways, along highways, while riding buses, as well as operating video cameras and traffic counters
Mr. Brackin received his Bachelor of Arts degree, in Information System Management from Texas A&M University in 1998. Mr. Brackin has received many awards including the TTI Technical Support Award, the Meritorious Service Medal, Lone Star Distinguished Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism, and the Adjutant General's Individual Award.
