Short Biography

Dr. Bierling's research experience includes hazardous materials transportation analysis; port infrastructure, operations and environmental issues; and emergency response equipment test and evaluation. His doctorate in urban and regional science from Texas A&M University focused on stakeholder participation and information use in local planning and decision-making. He also holds a masters degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University, and a bachelors degree in environmental engineering from Michigan Technological University. He has been Principal or Co-Principal Investigator on research projects for the Transportation Research Board of The National Academies, Texas Division of Emergency Management, Texas A&M Engineering Programs Office (for U.S. Department of Homeland Security grants), Texas Department of Transportation, and other sponsors.
