Short Biography
Jason Crawford is a member of TTI's Urban Analysis Program, located in Arlington, Texas. He has more than 10 years of experience working on transportation/air quality and transportation planning issues. He has extensive experience in analysis procedures and data needs for post-process methods used for TCM and CMAQ projects, as well as a thorough understanding of statewide data collection and analysis processes related to meeting state and federal reporting requirements.Mr. Crawford has led and assisted on several transportation/air quality research projects. His efforts were directed at documenting, improving, and recommending procedures to estimate emission benefits from transportation projects/programs calculated outside of traditional travel demand models. His other work has investigated emissions associated with non-road emissions, specifically the highway construction industry and work performed for the Texas Department of Transportation.
Mr. Crawford previously developed and instructed a two-day workshop entitled "CM/AQ Evaluation Model Workshop." This workshop introduced the participants to the CMAQ program and provided intensive hands-on computer activities using the CM/AQ Evaluation Model. Participants from metropolitan planning organizations in Texas nonattainment areas attended, as well as staff from Texas Department of Transportation and Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission. The workshop was taught a second time to Texas transit agency staff and MPO and state DOT staff in New Mexico and Louisiana.
His experience in transportation planning of the data collection and analysis subject areas covers field equipment, site selection, data quality, and office analysis procedures. Mr. Crawford's efforts have focused on providing assistance to the Texas Department of Transportation's Transportation Planning and Programming Division. He currently is assisting them as a subject matter expert, advisor, and reviewer for their large information technology improvement effort named Statewide Traffic Analysis and Reporting System (STARS).
Mr. Crawford has produced numerous research reports to technically transfer findings. In addition, he has produced a software user manual and a handbook profiling common and some unique congestion mitigation techniques in the United States. He is currently managing the production of a handbook, for new nonattainment area planning staff, on evaluating mobile source emissions from transportation emission reduction measures. This handbook will provide the reader with a basic foundation of transportation/air quality regulations and the basis for air quality standards, as well as simplified evaluation methods for determining emission benefits of transportation projects and programs.
He has managed several research projects and tasks on numerous other research projects for the Texas Department of Transportation and the Southwest University Transportation Center. He currently manages two professionals and several support staff.
He actively participates in Transportation Research Board and Institute of Transportation Engineers activities concerning transportation planning and air quality planning. He is a friend to several Transportation Research Board committees that pertain to transportation planning and air quality. Mr. Crawford currently serves as Past-President for the Institute of Transportation Engineer's (ITE) Greater Fort Worth Section and as the chair of the Younger Members Committee for ITE's District 9 (Texas).
