Short Biography
Mr. Jacobson is an Assistant Research Engineer at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, where he conducts transportation engineering research. He received his Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1997. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University. He was previously employed by the City of Dallas Public Works and Transportation Department, working primarily in traffic signal design and operations.Mr. Jacobson has extensive experience with modeling various transportation design and operational scenarios using state of the art computer simulation techniques. Mr. Jacobson has used several transportation modeling and analysis packages including PASSER II, PASSER III, Synchro/SimTraffic, Integration, TRANSYT-7F, HCS, VISSIM, CORSIM, and ArcView. Mr. Jacobson has extensive experience with obtaining and analyzing crash data from state and local sources. Mr. Jacobson also has experience with designing, conducting, and analyzing the results from many types of surveys. In addition, he has also taught several training courses on various transportation subjects, including ArcView GIS software and PASSER III, to transportation professionals as well as college and high school students. His areas of interest include traffic safety, traffic operations, traffic control devices and transportation in education.
During his tenure at the City of Dallas, Mr. Jacobson was responsible for developing timing plans and maintaining traffic signal operations for a system of over 1250 signals. In addition, he developed specifications and procured an Intelligent Transportation System consisting of several dynamic message signs for arterial streets located throughout the city.
Mr. Jacobson is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. He is also an active member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers.
