Short Biography

Dr. Rong Luo has completed, led or participated in research projects for the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Southwest Region University Transportation Center (SWUTC) and other funding agencies. Currently Dr. Luo is the Principal Investigator of the NCHRP Research Project 1-50 "Quantifying the Influence of Geosynthetics on Pavement Performance", in which she is leading the effort on developing a comprehensive methodology of designing flexible pavements and rigid pavements with geosynthetics and calibrating the pavement performance predicted with the Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG) Program.

Dr. Luo is an active member of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) where she has been a member of the TRB AFS70 "Geosynthetics Committee", AFS50 "Modeling for the Design, Construction, and Management of Geosystems Committee" and A0010 "International Activities Committee".

Dr. Luo's technical paper, entitled "Combining Geogrid Reinforcement and Lime Treatment to Control Dry-Land Longitudinal Cracking", won the 2009 TRB Soil Mechanics Section Best Paper Award. Dr. Luo also received the 2007 International Road Federation (IRF) Executive Leadership Fellowship and was named an IRF Executive Leadership Fellow.
