Short Biography

Jon Williams is an Assistant Transportation Researcher at the Center for International Intelligent Transportation Research (CIITR) at TTI. His training and expertise are in geography and GIS, and his areas of interest include air quality; climate variability; environmental sustainability; and planning. He has international work experience in countries including Brazil, Ecuador, and Mexico. Before working in the transportation area he worked for years in environmental design and as an entrepreneur.

Mr. Williams has worked as a project manager on efforts including a bi-national assessment on the short-lived climate forcing agent black carbon, and a bicycle inventory for the greater El Paso area. He has assisted on projects concerned with particulate matter (PM10) emissions and ground level ozone. Mr. Williams has worked assessing the methodology and model design for a decision support system analyzing cargo logistics performance for corridors in Central America. In a project assessing flow volumes of international freight, he helped design the methodology and performed the work of assigning truck and rail freight volumes to transportation networks in GIS from origin-destination matrices. Mr. Williams helped to analyze route options for the infrastructure configuration of a transnational freight transit system and a transnational mass transit system, both serving the U.S.-Mexico border region. He assisted in the development of a bi-national transportation demand model in TRANUS, analyzing international traffic in the U.S.-Mexico border region. He has experience with innovative approaches to value capture financing. Mr. Williams is a skilled cartographer and has produced many transportation related maps. He has travelled to remote international regions and has had experience with very diverse cultures.
