Short Biography
Dr. Kenneth Joh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning at Texas A&M University, Program Coordinator of the Graduate Certificate Program in Transportation Planning, and an Assistant Research Scientist at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute. He received a B.A. in Political Science in 2000 from the University of California, San Diego, a M.A. in Urban Planning in 2003 from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Ph.D. in 2009 from the University of California, Irvine.Dr. Joh's primary research interest is in the area of sustainable transportation and the built environment, particularly walking behavior. He has been involved in numerous projects and has published several papers in this area of research. Specific topics of investigation include differences in travel behavior in New Urbanist and traditional neighborhoods, the role of attitudes and crime in walking behavior, retrofitting auto-oriented suburbs to promote increased walking, and pedestrian and bicycle safety. His other areas of interests include accessibility and equity issues in transportation, public transit systems, and international transportation policy and planning.
Dr. Joh has presented his research at various venues, including the Transportation Research Board and the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning conferences. He has also received numerous awards and fellowships including the Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship.
Prior to joining Texas A&M in 2010, Dr. Joh was a Visiting Assistant Professor in Urban and Regional Planning at the Florida State University, where he taught courses in transportation planning, transportation and land use, international transportation planning, and quantitative methods.
