Short Biography

Kelly West is the Manager of Publication Services in the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) Communications Group, where she currently supervises the writing, editing, publishing, and library services units. She has been with TTI since 1992 and taught Technical Writing and Editing courses at Texas A&M University prior to that. Since joining the Institute, Ms. West has increased her knowledge of transportation research, implementation issues, and other industry issues, working closely with TTI researchers from all divisions and with other state transportation agency field and administrative personnel. Her experience includes writing, editing, and overseeing production teams for both print and electronic products that facilitate implementation, public outreach, and technology transfer of transportation research. This wide variety of products includes manuals, guidelines, handbooks, newsletters, brochures, fact sheets, posters, calendars, technical reports, video scripts, technical articles, web-based and CD-ROM training courses, and website content. In her first years with TTI, Ms. West created and implemented a standardized TTI style guide and editorial services for the Institute's Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) research program to ensure quality and compliance with FHWA and TxDOT publication requirements. She has completed the nationally recognized course, Information Mapping, which focuses on structuring technical information to optimize its presentation for instructional/education purposes. She is also formally trained in developing information for online publications. Currently, Ms. West serves as the editor of the Texas Transportation Researcher, TTI's award-winning industry publication. She is also research supervisor of the two primary research support contracts that provide communication services to TTI researchers producing deliverables for the Texas Department of Transportation research program.
