Short Biography
Mr. Farnsworth's research responsibilities include assisting in the development and implementation of a travel data survey program for urban areas in Texas. Additionally, he is assisting in the development of a program for collecting and analyzing external station survey data for commercial and non-commercial vehicles and conducting vehicle classification counts at international and state border crossings. He is also involved in the development of a program for utilizing global positioning satellite (GPS) data to estimate travel time delay as well as vehicular emission levels. Mr. Farnsworth utilizes sophisticated travel demand modeling software to assist in the analysis of transportation networks in metropolitan areas within Texas.Mr. Farnsworth has experience in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), transit planning, Travel Demand Management (TDM), and land use and transit connectivity issues. He has been responsible for conducting literature reviews on ITS technologies and applications, land use policies to support greater transit use, telecommuting, environmental issues, and Employer Trip Reduction (ETR) programs. Mr. Farnsworth has also assisted in the Transit Cooperative Research Program (TCRP) bus stop design study, Design and Location of Bus Stops on Major Streets and Highways. Additionally, he was involved in a number of travel demand and transit research projects at the Institute, as well as assisted with the local evaluation of the Houston Smart Commuter ITS Operational Test. Additionally, he assisted in the development of a methodology for synthesizing transportation planning and economic development in small Texas cities.
