Short Biography

Dr. Qu has over 15 years of professional experience in performing research, consulting and engineering services in both the United States and China. She has conducted a wide variety of transportation research and projects covering the areas of travel demand modeling, traffic operations management, mobile source emission modeling, ITS data analysis, bicycle and pedestrian traffic modeling, as well as congestion performance measures. Currently, Dr. Qu focuses on the research and application with ITS data as well as the issues of congestion monitoring and measures in both the United States and China.

In the past few years, Dr. Qu has played an important role in the following projects:

- Conducting the research of investigating the effect of freeway congestion thresholds on decision-making inputs awarded by the University Transportation Center for Mobility for the U.S. Department of Transportation

- Development of procedures to process and analyze ITS data for performance evaluation and reporting for Beijing Transportation Research Center

- Development of methodology to estimate and forecast bicycle and pedestrian usage for Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO)

- Conducting ITS data analysis for SHRP 2 L03: Analytic Procedures for Determining the Impacts of Reliability Mitigation Strategies, Federal Highway Administration

- Conducting the research of Investigation the Use of Private Sector Traffic Data on Freeways and Arterial Streets in the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Region

- Performed Archived Traffic Data Management and Analysis for Monitoring Congestion in Dallas, Texas for Texas Department of Transportation

- Development of procedures to estimate the Texas Congestion Index (TCI) using the outputs from Travel Demand Model

Dr. Qu is also active in several professional organizations and international activities in TTI. She is a friend in the TRB Committee on Pedestrians. She organized the 2009 Workshop on Innovations in Congestion Monitoring in Beijing.
