Short Biography

Ms. Debbie Jasek is an Associate Research Specialist with the Center for Professional Development at TTI. Her areas of interest include commercial vehicle safety and operations, hazardous materials incident management, and technology transfer and dissemination. Ms. Jasek is currently working on a project with Dr. Dan Middleton on staffing upgrade of license and weight activities for the Texas Department of Public Safety. She recently finished project work with Dr. Middleton on an analysis of the legal framework of motor carrier regulations in Texas, Mexico, and Canada; the evaluation and development of an improved systems of collecting and reporting traffic loads, and a California State Route 60 truck lane feasibility study. Ms. Jasek also works with Dr. Gary Thomas in the Center for Professional Development. The Center works to disseminate transportation?related information to current and future transportation professionals and to support and encourage the implementation of relevant, leading edge research results in the most efficient, effective, and expedient method possible.

Ms. Jasek recently completed a hazardous materials transportation flow study for Matagorda County, as well as a similar study for jurisdictions in southeastern Harris County. Ms. Jasek has worked on numerous projects related to commercial vehicles including: drafting a strategic plan for commercial vehicles in Texas, truck lane restrictions, and development of an Advanced Highway Safety Management Short Course. Ms. Jasek was the principal author for a report on truck lane restrictions in Texas and assisted TxDOT in drafting rules for the Texas Administrative Code for implementing recent legislation in that area. She served as an instructor for the Safety Management Short Course and was responsible for authoring the sections concerning Motor Carrier Safety, Incident Management, and Hazardous Materials; as well creating a reference manual on various safety topics used by course participants.
