Enhancements to TxDOT's Flexible Pavement Design System

Project Description

The Flexible Pavement System (FPS-19) design program has been the primary software used by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to determine required structural thickness for new and rehabilitated pavement structures for many years. The last major revision to this software occurred with the 2001 release of FPS-19W. After a 2005 review of FPS-19W, TxDOT determined that a number of enhancements were required. These enhancements fell into two categories, immediate upgrades and mid-term upgrades. The immediate upgrades address the current system¿s limitations. The mid-term updates involve adding new modules into the existing FPS-19 framework. These modules are in various stages of completion as a result of studies completed by TTI. All of the proposed upgrades are primarily aimed at enhancing the mechanistic design module in FPS.
