Identification of Systems and Equipment Inventories and Assessment and Validation Needs of Emergency-Responder Organizations
Project Description
Texas Transportation Institute conducted this study for the Department of Homeland Security's Office of Domestic Preparedness, later the Office of Grants and Training, through the SAVER Program, administered at Texas A&M by Texas Engineering Experiment Station. The systems/equipment inventories of first responder organizations are a critical component of ensuring adequate service to responder customers and communities. A better understanding of these inventories enhances the ability of federal and state agencies and associated programs to provide needed technologies and information to the first responder community.
The project
- reviewed the current inventory management literature;
- conducted a focus group on inventory management practices in fire departments;
- obtained information on current inventory management practices of fire departments through telephone surveys, written surveys, and on-site interviews with personnel at fire departments throughout the United States;
- analyzed inventory records provided by fire departments; and
- documented project results.
