Development of Video Surveillance Trailer

Project Description

A self-contained video surveillance trailer has been constructed by the TTI Proving Ground staff to provide unattended traffic monitoring capabilities. The trailer, third in a series, uses a 25-foot pneumatic mast to raise two remotely controlled cameras. Dome-type cameras were selected due to their light weight and ability to pan, tilt, and zoom over a single pair cable. Power for the entire system is provided by a 2000-watt generator carried in the trailer but placed in an outside cage for operation. Video from each camera is fed to a four-way screen splitter, to a monitor, and to a digital unit for several hours of recording on a removable hard drive. The mast is raised by means of a self-contained compressor after the stabilizing outriggers are extended. All components are common off the shelf (COTS), except for brackets, mounts, generator cage, and outriggers that required fabrication at the TTI Riverside Proving Ground. A constructed improvement in this generation video trailer is the square tube steel frame that extends from the frame, up each side, and across the top. With the top covered with steel grating, a person is able to stand on it to access the removable camera assembly.
