Development of a Dallas Area-Wide Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Plan
Project Description
The purpose of the Dallas Area-Wide ITS Plan is to improve mobility, safety, and productivity in the Dallas area by reducing traffic congestion through improved communication and coordination in the delivery of transportation related services. This project
- established a broadly based steering committee,
- assessed the existing transportation management and communications linkages within the Dallas area,
- investigated the potential of existing ITS technology to bring about improvements, and
- identified institutional and legal barriers to communication, cooperation and coordination and recommend the means to resolve them.
TTI developed and published the plan in cooperation with over a dozen local agencies. The plan serves as a guideline for cooperative and coordinated implementation of ITS projects in the Dallas Urban Area.
