Study of the Impacts of Urban Development on the Transportation System inside IH-610 Loop in Houston, Texas

Project Description

Over the past decade, a significant amount of development, redevelopment, and population growth has occurred inside the IH-610 Loop in Houston, Texas. The hypothesis for research is that these changes have had some positive transportation impacts. However, the effects of this development on the transportation system have not been quantified. In addition, there are several factors that have influenced development inside the IH-610 Loop. The objectives of the research are: to better understand what factors have caused residential and business growth inside IH-610 and to attempt to measure the impacts on transportation. If the impacts of the development patterns inside the IH-610 area are shown to have positive effects on the transportation system, then public policy and private-sector actions can better address mobility problems by encouraging similar land use strategies. The potential effect of these strategies can also be assessed, providing valuable decision-making knowledge.
