Managing the Movements of Hazardous Material Shipments through Texas Population Centers
Project Description
While the vast majority of hazardous materials are moved safely over the nation¿s transportation system every day, the few incidents that do occur have substantial health, safety and environmental risks. The transportation planning community needs to fully understand methods for effectively managing the movement of hazardous materials¿thereby improving operations, increasing safety, and reducing risk¿without placing an undue burden on commerce. TxDOT Project 0-5929 will evaluate quantities, origins, and destinations of hazardous material flows in Texas and provide guidance for the effective management of moving those materials. Stakeholder roles will also be considered. The project will investigate the hazmat route relocation potential of the Trans-Texas Corridor, along with other rail relocation projects.
