A Guide to Transportation Funding Options: Phase 2

Project Description

This research adds to the one-stop shop website, A Guide to Transportation Funding Options, which was Phase 1 of the same project. Phase 2 provides details on transportation funding options and their applicability in an easy-to-use format. This phase compiled information on transportation funding options for transit, rail, aviation, and ports. The website consolidates information available from various sources and presents it in clear, nontechnical language. The site documents innovative financing techniques that are used in more limited capacities. It provides links related to various techniques, examples of those techniques in practice, sample legislation, specific programs, and additional information and insight.

Due to the constantly changing subject matter, researchers have recommended that this website continue to be developed and enhanced with additional information as it becomes available. In addition to the data that are on the website, researchers plan to provide more detailed information on federal transportation funding practices, including information on how much federal funding states receive and the processes that determine those amounts. Efforts are also under way to provide additional detail on current trends in innovative financing. Furthermore, it is recommended that the website eventually incorporate more interactive aspects, such as a forum feature and electronic mailing lists.
