60-Minute Hands-on Training Module (0-5470-P1)

This presentation provides an overview of two tools recently developed as part of Texas Department of Transportation research studies on schools. The first tool, Traffic Operations and Safety at Schools Recommended Guidelines, deals with school site selection, general site requirements, design and operations, access (including pedestrian and bicycle), on-site traffic control, and parking. The second tool, Guidelines for Traffic Control for School Areas, provides information on when to install a school zone, characteristics of a school zone, and appropriate traffic control devices around schools. It gives additional background, discusses issues and concerns, and presents typical examples.
