1. Position
The Texas A&M Transportation Institute seeks to provide a safe, healthy and pleasant environment for staff and students. To help meet that goal, the Institute wishes to be a smoke-free agency.
1.1 Buildings and Vehicles
All buildings and vehicles owned or leased under the administrative purview of the Director of the Texas A&M Transportation Institute will be entirely smoke-free. Any leased or rented vehicle in which at least one employee is a non-smoker shall also be smoke-free.
1.2 Urban/Regional offices
TTI offices which are located in buildings away from the agency’s main headquarters on the Texas A&M University campus will, to the greatest extent possible, be located in buildings which are smoke-free.
1.3 Laboratory/Research Areas
Particular care should be taken to keep smoke-free all research areas/laboratories where flammable liquids, toxic chemicals or any fire or safety risk exists.
2. Implementation Procedures
2.1
Division Heads and Center Directors have the following responsibility:
- to ensure that this rule is communicated to everyone in their administrative unit
- to ensure that appropriate notice is provided to their employees about any available smoking areas in their buildings or areas.
2.2
The Manager of Facilities and Support Services shall see that signs designating non-smoking facilities (and any location where smoking is allowed) are displayed in all TTI office locations and in TTI vehicles.
3. Enforcement
This rule relies on the thoughtfulness and consideration of smokers and non-smokers for its success. It is each TTI employee’s responsibility to observe the provisions of these guidelines.
