Texas Impaired Driving Task Force Earns National Recognition
The Texas Impaired Driving Task Force (TxIDTF) has been nationally recognized for its leadership and partnership-driven impact on roadway safety. The task force received the John W. Britt Community Service Award from the National Liquor Law Enforcement Association (NLLEA), highlighting Texas’ strong and collaborative commitment to reducing impaired driving statewide.

Presented at the NLLEA Annual Conference in Fort Worth, the award celebrates organizations that demonstrate exceptional dedication to public safety, coalition-based solutions and community-led prevention efforts. The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission nominated the task force for its statewide coordination of data and planning, education and prevention, law enforcement, forensic testing, prosecution, judicial resources, and research partners, who all work together toward the common goal of eliminating deaths and injuries caused by impaired driving.
“This recognition underscores the strength and persistence of the partnerships here in Texas,” said Christine Adams, assistant research scientist at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) and administrator of the task force. “Every member of the task force brings unique expertise, and when we align those efforts, we save lives.”
The TxIDTF is supported by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and facilitated by TTI’s Center for Alcohol and Drug Education Studies. Through statewide educational efforts, data-driven prevention strategies, technical assistance for communities and collaboration with local and state agencies, the task force helps move Texas closer to achieving zero fatalities on its roadways.
Adams accepted the award on behalf of the task force during the President’s Reception of the NLLEA Annual Conference, an event that brought together law enforcement agencies, alcohol regulation specialists and public health partners from across the country to recognize excellence in community safety. She was joined by Larry Krantz, TxDOT program manager for TxIDTF. David Doggett, deputy chief of field operations with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, presented the award.
“Texas continues to show that a coordinated approach that includes enforcement, education and community support is the strongest path toward safer roads,” Adams said. “This award demonstrates that our partners here are setting an example for others across the country, proving that collaboration is how we make meaningful progress to prevent impaired driving.”
As the task force continues its work, this national recognition reinforces the importance of cross-sector partnerships in saving lives and fostering a culture of safety throughout the state.
