TTI Appoints Darlene Goehl as Chief Engineer
BRYAN, TX — The Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) has named Darlene Goehl, P.E., its chief engineer, a role that provides leadership across the Institute’s engineering and infrastructure research efforts.
A graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering, Goehl brings more than 35 years of experience in transportation engineering, pavement design, research and leadership. She is a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas.
At TTI, Goehl serves as leader of the Infrastructure Group, providing oversight of division and program managers across the infrastructure-related research portfolio and guiding strategy, coordination and delivery of major research initiatives. She joined TTI in 2016 following a 28-year career with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), where she held a variety of leadership roles in design, construction and maintenance.
She most recently served as area engineer in the Huntsville Area Office of TxDOT’s Bryan District, managing 85 employees and overseeing construction and maintenance operations across four counties. In that role, she directed an average annual construction program exceeding $114 million and was responsible for more than 1,300 centerline miles of highway.
Prior to serving as area engineer, Goehl was the Bryan District’s pavement and materials engineer for 17 years. During that time, she led efforts in pavement management, materials testing and pavement design, and supported development of the district’s four-year transportation plan. She contributed to statewide advancements through authorship of special specifications and participation in updates to the TxDOT Standard Specifications for the Construction of Highways, Streets and Bridges.
Throughout her career, Goehl has been deeply involved in transportation research, serving as chair of the Technical Advisory Panel for pavement, construction and maintenance. She has contributed to more than 30 research projects and has received multiple honors, including the M.D. (“Mac”) Shelby Award, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials President’s Transportation Award for Research, and the TxDOT Research Program Outstanding Project Director Award.
