Amirali Najafi is an Assistant Research Scientist at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) and an Assistant Professor in the Zachry Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Texas A&M University. His expertise encompasses bridge engineering, structural vibrations and dynamic systems, large-scale testing, structural health monitoring, and nondestructive evaluation. Dr. Najafi earned his Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Toronto in 2014 and a Master of Science from the University of California, Berkeley, in 2015. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2021, specializing in hybrid simulation techniques that integrate physical experiments with computational models to assess structural performance.
Dr. Najafi has extensive experience leading complex, large-scale bridge testing and asset management research projects. His notable work includes the Long-Term Bridge Performance (LTBP) program for the Federal Highway Administration, the Bridge Resources Program (BRP) for the New Jersey Department of Transportation, Digital Twin Modeling of Railway Bridges for New Jersey Transit, Enterprise Asset Management of the George Washington Bridge for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and the Advanced Bridge Technology Clearinghouse program for the U.S. Department of Transportation.
At Texas A&M, Dr. Najafi continues advancing research in cyber-physical testing, coastal infrastructure resilience, and structural monitoring, alongside teaching courses such as Dynamic Loads and Structural Behavior and Design of Steel Structures. He is also engaged in professional communities, serving as a committee member of the International Society for Structural Health Monitoring of Intelligent Infrastructure, the Engineering Mechanics Institute, and on editorial boards for Frontiers in Built Environment and the Journal of Civil Structural Health Monitoring.
