Dr. Hurlebaus is a Research Engineer at TTI, with over 26 years of experience working on a variety of research projects. He leads the Major Highway Structures program at Texas A&M Transportation Institute. Dr. Hurlebaus is also a Professor and R.P. Gregory ‘32 Chair in the Zachry Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Texas A&M University. He has a significant background in experimental testing in the laboratory and in the field as well as in structural modeling, engineering mechanics, sensors, instrumentation, structural controls and nondestructive testing.
Dr. Hurlebaus is teaching classes on Introduction into the Civil Engineering Profession, Structural Analysis, Dynamics, Sensor Technology for the Built Environment, Smart Structures, and Experimental Methods in Civil Engineering. Dr. Hurlebaus has served as principal and co-principal investigator on numerous related research projects funded by a diverse pool including but not limited to TxDOT, FHWA, NSF, NCHRP, DOE, AAR, and Sandia National Lab. He has authored or co-authored over 250 technical papers and reports. He is a professional engineer in civil engineering in the state of Texas.
His projects deal with the assessment of structures, determination of unknown bridge foundations, real-time monitoring of scour events, inspection, repair, and assessment of post-tensioned bridges, developing high-speed, nondestructive testing procedures and nondestructive testing of tunnel linings.
