Dr. Luciana R. Barroso is an Associate Professor in the Zachry Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Texas A&M University and has served as the Associate Department Head for Undergraduate Programs since Fall 2023. Her research focuses on structural dynamics, structural control, and structural health monitoring, with an emphasis on improving the safety and resilience of civil infrastructure systems.

Dr. Barroso’s work includes linear and nonlinear dynamic analysis, seismic hazard assessment, and the development of control strategies for mitigating structural response during extreme events. She has conducted research on semi-active and adaptive control devices, system identification techniques, and the integration of sensor networks for condition monitoring and damage detection.

She holds B.A. and B.S. degrees from Rice University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering from Stanford University. In addition to her technical work, Dr. Barroso is active in engineering education initiatives and curriculum development, supporting undergraduate student success through both instructional and leadership roles.
