2026 Summer undergraduate Research internship Program

Program Overview
The 2026 Summer Undergraduate Research Internship Program offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working alongside leading researchers at TTI. Each intern will be paired with a TTI research mentor and will contribute to an active research project within one of TTI’s University Transportation Centers (UTCs).
This immersive 10-week experience provides students with valuable insight into real-world transportation research, professional development opportunities, and a chance to explore innovative solutions to today’s mobility challenges.
For a CEM Internship:
Shape the Future of Efficient Mobility
Explore how efficient transportation systems can advance far-reaching economic and social benefits.
For an NCIT Internship:
Be on the Frontier of Technology and Infrastructure Innovation
Dive into projects involving infrastructure durability and innovation, innovative technologies and transportation policy.
For AN SPTC Internship:
Accelerate in Multi-Modal Transportation Systems
Work at the intersection of engineering, meteorology and data science to assess vulnerabilities in transportation networks and support safer, more efficient travel.
Research Topics
Interns will participate in projects related to:
- Efficient and Innovative Mobility
- Land-Use and Urban Planning
- Infrastructure Durability and Innovation
- Transportation Policy
- Novel Technologies and Materials
- Asset Management
- Multi-Modal Transportation
- Data Analysis
Funding
Interns will receive up to $6,000 in wages for the 10-week period. Those residing in Bryan/College Station will also receive:
- $2,000 housing allowance
- $1,700 food allowance
Interns are responsible for securing their own housing and transportation for the summer. Please note: Wages and allowances are considered taxable income.
Applicant Eligibility
Students from any academic major are encouraged to apply, including but not limited to:
- Civil or other Engineering disciplines
- Urban Planning
- Public or Community Health
- Social Sciences
- Statistics or Data Analytics
Applicants must:
- Demonstrate enthusiasm for research and interest in transportation-related topics.
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- Have completed at least 90 credit hours by the end of Spring 2026.
- Be on track to graduate no sooner than December 2026.
Participate Requirements and Expectations
Selected interns must:
- Refrain from enrolling in university courses during the 10-week internship.
- Attend all internship-related events, including the final poster or presentation session.
- Commit to a full-time schedule (40 hours per week), which includes:
- Research hours determined by student’s mentor.
- Mandatory internship activities and meetings.
Program Completion Requirements
To successfully complete the program, interns must submit and present:
- A research plan
- A final paper
- A final presentation to researchers and fellow interns
- A research poster or presentation
