Halloween Day Blood Drive First for TTI

November 2, 2012

For the first time in TTI history, the October blood drive this year occurred on Halloween Day. To celebrate the occasion, organizer Nancy Stratta wanted to put donors in the appropriate mood to give blood.

A smoking caldron of witch’s brew greeted donors at the front door, Halloween decorations adorned the room, lights were turned down to a spooky level, and movies — including Dracula and Young Frankenstein — played throughout the course of the day.

A total of 46 units of blood were donated by 40 individuals, some of whom were also dressed for the occasion. Strata says the amount of blood donated equates to potentially saving 138 lives.

“As usual when it comes to events like these, TTIers threw themselves into it, generously giving of their time,” observes Stratta. “Not to mention their blood!” she adds with a wink.

The Blood Center of the Brazos Valley conducts the blood drives for TTI. The next blood drive is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013.
