Odd Names, Good Times: TTI Bowling League Ends

August 24, 2012

After 10 weeks of heated battle, the TTI Summer Bowling League ended Aug. 15. Nine teams made up the league this year, including Insane in the 10thFrame, and The Bald and the Beautiful (named in part after its handsome team member Tommy Clement).

With 28 wins and only 12 losses, Off Constantly, captained by Ed Brackin, took top honors. Three Beers and a Water, headed up by Dasani® fan Lance Bullard, was two games behind to take second place. The Honey Badgers — which was made up of Network and Information System employees — seemed to care very little this year about winning but still managed third place.

Reigning bowling champ Matt Powers (kneeling) relinquishes his trophy to new kingpin Rick Davenport.

Rounding out last place was the Honey Bowlers, which included Chris Pourteau and Richard Cole. (After realizing the Honey Badgers name was already taken, the team elected to keep at least part of the name. “Badgers? We don’t need no stinkin’ badgers!” they said, going with “Bowler” instead. Judging from their results, the team might consider some stinkin’ bowling lessons!)

Following the regular season, the traditional TTI Summer League Championship was held Aug. 22. Thanks only to a rare poor performance by reigning champion Matt Powers — who ended the regular league with a 197 average and a high score of 277 — the other eight competitors closed in on the kingpin. With a high game of 210, Rick Davenport was crowned this year’s champion. Holding with tradition, Powers graciously turned over the TTI Champion trophy to a surprised Davenport, who will keep the trophy in his possession until next summer.
