A consortium led by the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) was recently awarded a U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) grant for a tier-1 University Transportation Center (UTC). The grant provides continued funding for the Center for Advancing Research in Transportation Emissions, Energy, and Health (CARTEEH) over the next five years.
On May 8, CARTEEH leadership attended the kickoff meeting at the USDOT’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. Attendees from TTI included Deputy Agency Director and Center Director Dr. Joe Zietsman, Research Engineer and CARTEEH Deputy Director Dr. Tara Ramani, and Program Specialist III and CARTEEH Assistant Director, Administration Haylee Yung. Consortium team members from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Johns Hopkins University, Morehouse School of Medicine, University of California at Riverside, University of Texas at El Paso and North Dakota State University were also in attendance.
The one-day event included a meet and greet with Dr. Firas Ibrahim, director of the USDOT’s Office of Research, Development, and Technology, Caesar Singh, director of the UTC Program, and Dr. Robin Kline, CARTEEH UTC grant manager. The CARTEEH team presented their vision for the Center and engaged in conversations to help gain a better understanding of the USDOT’s plans, activities and expectations to achieve success.
